As you cruise through the pass toward the Island you won’t see an airport or even roadways on Isla Tortuga (Turtle Island). Indians named the Island tolinga (which means turtle) because of its turtle like shape. This laid back tropical island is located in the province of Puntarenas, situated off the tip of Nicoya Peninsula. Just a short boat ride away from Los Sueños Marina, this little island gem is known for its incredible white sandy beaches, colorful fish, tropical palm trees, warm waters all year around and much, much more..
The island is an animal refuge that offers visitors views of the rainforest via an amazing eco hike. See exotic flowers, a multitude of coconut trees, colorful birds and a wide variety of lizards and other land animals. There are even deer on the Island and a pet peccary pig named Filomena. Your guide will be able to answer questions about the animal and plant life that you most likely don’t see at home. The experience is an easygoing yet educational time for all.
You can participate in the island’s beach activities of volleyball, swimming or just sunbathing in the relaxing sunshine. Walking on the beach is pleasurable as the water washes over your toes and brilliantly colored fish swim around your feet.
It is the crystal clear water that is a big draw to the Island. If you want to do some snorkeling to see the marine life up close, guides can help you master the gear and give you some tips for beginners. Be sure not to miss the opportunity to see dolphins, octopus, sting rays, angel fish or even a whale. If you don’t feel like snorkeling or swimming, you can still see these sights while kayaking or on a paddle board.
Isla Tortuga will surely be one of the highlights of your Costa Rica experience!
